Lord Arfon is a magician who is assigned the task of capturing Tagin. He is described as tall and quite handsome, and as being gentle and apologetic the few times he’d had to physically force Indria to co-operate. He is able to hold his anger back and let it fade away quickly.

Arfon learns of Tagin's crimes by reading the mind of one of the surviving servants who witnessed the crime. He also learnt of Tagin's earlier crimes, and that he was keeping the servants silent with threats.

He arrives at Indria's house to find if she has information about where her brother is. Along with Lord Towin and Magician Beller, he searches for him, to no avail. He brings Indria along to the Guild to question her. Arfon and his searchers keep looking for Tagin and Indria after she is taken from the Guild. However after more deaths he leaves the Guild with twenty-three magicians with orders to kill, not capture, them both. Tagin defeats the whole group and Arfon only survives due to Indria's suggestion of letting him return to deliver the news and surrender. Despite them giving up against Tagin and his sister, Arfon secretly visits Indria in the Palace where they have taken residence. He uses a secret passage behind one of the large paintings to find out if there is anything they can do to rid of Tagin, he also assures Indria that if she wants to do something, he will help her. He leaves after Indria tells him she doesn't believe there is a way to stop him. However, Indria later uses the knowledge that Arfon told her about the Guild spring piping water to the King's room to poison Tagin's water.
