An Ashaki is a Sachakan landowner and magician, always a man. All of them know Higher Magic, and they are powerful freemen, and major politicians. Slaves provide almost everything they need; each Ashaki owns many of them, including children. Even though many people think that all Ashaki are mean, there are some of them who treat their slaves fairly and kindly. However there are also Ashaki who punish severely, and use their slaves however they wish.

Sonea worries that the Ashaki of Sachaka are still angry and will want to take revenge on Lorkin because of his parents previous actions. Dannyl meets many important Ashaki in Sachaka thanks to Achati and he also got permission to visit many of their homes and libraries. The Ashaki were reluctant and cold to him to begin with, but warm up to him and want to meet up with Dannyl. When Lorkin goes missing, Dannyl gets help from a few Ashaki. |
