Barran assists Lorlen with his investigations into finding a murderer. He is present in all of the Higher Magicians meetings about the murders, and tells Lorlen about every corpse the guard finds. It is the first time in which the corpses only had small wounds, which he doesn't quite understand, but tries his hardest to solve anyway.
