Lad

A lad is a male who is attracted to members of the same sex. The term is used mostly in Elyne.

Generally, the treatment of lads is not favourable throughout the Allied Lands. Elyne is the most accepting. Kyralia's reserved nature tends to shun them, and often removes them from positions of power. The Lonmar culture is extremely strict, and views these men as unnatural and wrong. They go so far as to execute any man who is proven to have had relations with other men. It is not shown how Vin and Lan treat lads. In Sachaka they are treated much the same as Kyralia.

As a result most lads, no matter which country they live in, tend to keep their inclinations secret, and sometimes even try to ignore them completely.

In The Black Magician Trilogy, there are two main characters who are lads. Tayend of Tremmelin from Elyne, and Ambassador Dannyl from the Guild. Once Dannyl accepts his feelings for Tayend, the two become lovers, and are still together at the end of The High Lord.
