He thinks it is impossible for the Pentadrian army to use the mines as a place for travelling. Lanren befriended Tryss, as he was eager to understand the Siyee. They learnt to communicate with hand gestures. Lanren didn't join the fighting of the war, as he doesn't have magic. Instead he stayed to advise from the war tents. He is hurt during the vorn attack on the war tent, which damages his left arm, but he refused to be treated by Raeli.
