Sezee is a young lady from the Western Isles. She is part of the royal bloodline and, along with her Aunt Veroo, would have been in line to inherit the throne as it was originally passed through the female line of the royal family. When the Western Isles were conquered by the patriarchal Leratian Empire the rightful ruler was deposed and replaced with an heir from the male line of the family through which the title began to descend instead. Despite this Sezee is still respected by the people of her homeland and those who know of her lineage, and grew up with all the confidence of a princess.
When her Aunt Veroo left the Western Isles to seek a place at the Academy in Belton in order to become a Sorcerer, Sezee accompanied her to Leratia seeking adventure. Arriving in Sacal Bay after Veroo's rejection from the Academy the pair sought accommodation for the night at a hotel in the dockworker's area of the town, but despite their royal status and means were denied due to being foreigners. Outside the hotel Sezee spotted the fugitive Tyen Ironsmelter being pursued by a group of presumptive muggers and came to his aid by pretending to be his half-sister and invited him inside the hotel with the assurance that the bandits wouldn't follow. As thanks Tyen continued the ruse to help them secure a room for the night.
They encountered him again the next day on the cargo docks where he intended to barter passage onto a ship and offered to help him again by offering false papers identifying him as their porter, Aren Coble, as long as he agreed to their conditions not to harm anyone, to pay his own pay and to tell them the truth of his flight from the Academy. Sezee describes giving Tyen Aren's identity papers as a 'small revenge' but does not explain further.
